Talking about the Lethaby Exhibition – So many possibilities and that will be decided by the cohorts. A lot of documentation will be circulating so hopefully it would be an interesting exhibition. Discussions how technology and art as well as research can be combined and shown to the audience. What would my contribution be if I were to participate ? I wonder sometimes if my contribution would be of interest, can my skill and knowledge be utilized in this collaborative public exhibition.
Unit 2 – apparently this is a very popular unit, YAY?! lol – Lets hope I share the same views. I unit you send each other stuff, we do a postal exchange. You need to have sent your stuff before we start unit 2 in January. hopefully we need to be able to send it within the next week. Stuff and cultures, the idea that we are looking at different relationships, Relia being one of them – materiality of the stuff that we surround our lives with is the integral of this unit. We will we asked to share something with our partner – our selection should be something inexpensive, simple and easily sent to them. We are thinking about the other person. or it could be something that helps the with their existing practice or makes them work in a different way.
What people did last year, some members sent original family photographs to her partner, Another student sent a bell, the bell is a hero product – so apparently the sky is the limit. Therefore this is very much about materiality. There is a positionally map – intersectionality – how are you composed as an individual through positions in relation to your cohorts. The other dimension is a presentation: You will be presenting on the person that you sent your stuff to. You will present on their practice and what did they do with the stuff that was sent. The goal is to work with other people’s stuff, therefore you will be activating this stuff, how is it significant to both people, and engage in cultural production through this cultural exchange. The aim is to be able to focus on one of your peers and how they are developing an interculturality through the materials sent. It’s like an intro perhaps to the artist. It’s about you thinking about the connections.
The items/item that are sent are encouraged to be a surprised. I don’t know what I might receive, so far this is interesting. The end result will be: give a presentation 7 to 10 mins on what the other member has done. When presenting, never can speak more than a 100 words per minute – reading and speaking – so it’s not very long and whats important is that you are reading their practice and how it connects with you. You illuminate the person’s work through their work and how it connects to me. You make them the star and the work as a star. This is the practitioner, and this is the body of work that they produced and this is how they used my stuff. Thinking like a curator is smart and is interesting, the discord should be there in the sense of understanding each other’s work and connecting with each other. submission is march – 11th – 2024.
